Yet, before igniting the engine, it’s imperative to confirm the presence of your bike’s RC book. This document, also known as the registration card, serves as official proof that your bike has undergone registration with the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

In actuality, RC books are smart cards containing vehicle details like:

  • Engine Number
  • Chassis Number
  • Two-Wheeler Colour
  • Two-Wheeler Model Number
  • The registration date and the two-wheeler’s number
  • Two-Wheeler Fuel Type
  • In addition, the RC also contains details like your name and address

What is the process for obtaining a Two-Wheeler RC book?

Securing a two-wheeler registration certificate is a straightforward procedure. Simply visit your nearest Regional Transport Office (RTO), where officials will conduct a vehicle inspection and issue the RC. Alternatively, you can request your dealer, from whom you purchased the vehicle, to handle the registration process on your behalf. In such instances, the vehicle will only be released once the RC is obtained.

The validity of RCs is 15 years, and they can be renewed every five years.

In case you lose your Registration Certificate (RC)

Operating your two-wheeler without the RC is against the law, and if caught, you may face penalties. If your RC is lost or stolen, it’s advisable to first report the incident to the nearest police station (in case of theft). Subsequently, visit your local RTO to begin the procedure for obtaining a duplicate RC. You’ll need to submit specific documents along with Form 26 for this purpose.

  • NOC from the Bank

After submitting the documents, you’ll need to pay Rs 300, and in return, you’ll receive an acknowledgment slip. This slip will indicate the expected date for receiving the hardcopy of the duplicate RC book at your provided address.

Transferring Two-wheeler RC Online

If you relocate to another state, transferring your two-wheeler RC is a simple process requiring the following documents:

  • NOC from your current RTO is required
  • Transport your two-wheeler to the new state.
  • Request registration for your two-wheeler in the new state
  • Complete the payment for road tax, as it varies from state to state.
